On my Windows 10 computer that runs OpenHAB 2, I just updated to Java 8 Update 161. Afterward OpenHAB would briefly flash its console window, but not start up. I tried updating Windows Firewall settings to be open to the updated version of Java , but that did not fix it. Doing an internet search, I thought to check the JAVA_HOME environmental variable. Sure enough it had an old JAVA version C:\program files (x86)\java\jre1.8.0_1 51\bin\java.exe... Update 151. I edited that to C:\program files (x86)\java\jre1.8.0_1 61\bin\java.exe & I am back in business. In your C:\ drive look for Java in your Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders (your brand may be different from mine) & then locate java.exe in the highest, LATEST Java version (there may be more than one). Copy the path to that latest java.exe version. In the Windows Start Button search box, type "advanced system settings" & click on the top item that shows up. In the lower box, see JAVA_HOME. Select that, click the edit button, & edit JAVA_HOME to the path of the latest java.exe This got me back in business again.

Update Oct. 24, 2018: Again, as in the last post, OpenHAB would briefly flash its console window, but not start up & the OpenHAB User Interface would not load. I remembered that I had just updated Java & that I had left the above post's hint for us. I used the steps above to update to my latest Java's path, C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_191
Since the previous occasion of this problem, I had established OpenHAB2 as a Windows service. So in Windows Services, I started the OpenHAB2 service. One could also run cmd.exe as an administrator & enter the command: net start OpenHAB2.
This got OpenHAB2 back in business again.
