I'm sold on the openHab setup and have it running fine on my Rpi2 with direct connections to the Gpio pins.
I am very interested in setting up a simple inexpensive wireless connection to some arduino / sensor nodes and this mosquitto solution looks promising. I'm having a hard time finding a simple setup to get started on my way. Not even sure which programs to install on what.
[questions] is the mosquitto - RFM69 - Rpi setup the best way to go? The only way to go? Is there a good basic tutorial to get me started?
thanks for any help

Hi ppavone, I will try to give an overview of solutions being discussed in this forum: There are two different setups being discussed in this forum: - an RFM <> MQTT gateway implemented on an Arduino - an RFM <> MQTT gateway implemented on a Raspberry Pi. Both implementations have in common that you need to implement an MQTT broker (Mosquitto is widely used) and Openhab, that are typically installed on a Raspberry Pi. A description of the Arduino gateway setup can be found at: github.com/computourist/RFM69-MQTT-client/blob/master/Gateway_2.1/RFM_MQTT_gateway_description_V21.pdfI have this setup (V2.2) now running stable for several weeks in a row. An effort is on its way to port the Arduino gateway code to Raspberry Pi, preserving the same data interchange format. This would mean that any end node code could be used for either gateway. I'm not sure about the progress on this raspberry Pi gateway though. There still seem to be some stability issues to be solved. The original code that Eric published in his Instructable has also been ported and expanded upon for use on the Raspberry Pi. Again, I'm not sure on progress on these developments.

I have a third option you may prefer.
I ran across LowPowerLab that makes Arduino clones called Moteino's that have the RFM already on the chip for $19. So my setup is.
- USB Moteino (RFM) $19 plugged into serial port of Raspberry Pi - simple Arduino sketch that passes RFM <> Serial - Python daemon that does the MQTT <> Serial - Moteino(s) $19 nodes reading sensors and sending to/from gateway over RFM - OpenHAB with mosquito
Let me know if this forum is interested

Hello Emil, Dunno about the forum, but I'm interested. Just came accross the Moteino and it looks very promising (though the price is about double of the separate components) BR, Niels

Some of us have been adapting CompuTourist's approach to Buono Uno Arduino compatibles (switched to 3.3 volt mode) & prototyping shields. I've tried to give a detailed documentation in my Success... posts, especially from Oct 8, 2015 at 6:40pm - Oct 17, 2015 at 6:10pm
