Papa,
Great info and thanks for responding. The more I think about my situation, the more I am leaning toward updating the code for everything. I think I started to get too "risk averse" and forgot why I began this adventure in the first place...I love tinkering and I want to learn more about electronics while applying it to something practical like home sensing/automation. So, in that vein, I will throw caution to the wind and update the programming in conjunction with building a couple more DHT nodes and starting on the Garage node.
Unfortunately, I am leaving later this week for a 6-week work trip to southern California and will have nearly zero time to work on this project until early in March. Hopefully I will have the ability to get on here and continue to read, study, and devise a plan for the next chapter in this adventure.
As always, Papa, thank you! This site and project would not have made it as far as it has without you and a few others that have selflessly applied yourselves and your time to helping others.

Thanks, whippo, for the encouragement. I do hope you will enjoy the adventure of trying things with DIY Home Automation & learning from your experiences.
I believe you will find the updated Gateway & choose nodes sketches mostly compatible with previous versions, especially if you use GatewayOne/NetworkOne & NODEIDs greater than 04. Likewise, hardware can be a hassle to tweak, but software only needs another upload.
