I've tried using both openhabianpi:8080 10.0.0.10:8080, doesn't connect.

Okay, I just needed to reboot the Raspberry Pi. Almost there now! I got my panels back, just now an issue with getting the values to show on OpenHAB. Here's the latest log after a reboot:

ngy: "Okay, I just needed to reboot the Raspberry Pi."
papa: Rebooting is often a great way to fix problems. I'm busy with other things for a while, but will try to offer some help.
What openhab User Interface are you using? habpanel? habmin? I've never used those & do not know if the My.xxx files would have conflicts with them. If not already you might try the basicui user interface that I use & see what results you get.
"'Node02_Sensed': An error occurred during the script execution: Could not invoke method: java.lang.Number.floatValue() on instance: NULL" ^^ Did errors like this clear up & you started seeing data in the OpenHAB User Interface you chose? Without extra programming, errors like that can happen for a while especially when openhab, gateway, & node start up & occasionally later. It means openhab is getting nothing at the moment from that piece of node data. Sometimes rebooting (even more than once) openhab, gateway, & node can get things going.
What are you using to view & edit the My.xxxx config files? Editing with a Windows-type text editor introduces end of line characters that cause problems in openhab running on a Linux device like an openhabianpi. Editing on a Windows machine should use a Linux friendly text editor like the free Notepad++ << If this is true for you, reload the My.xxx originals into an editor like Notepad++ & then edit in any changes you made to the originals.
If your effors or the above ^^ do not fix your problem, please post here your copies of My.items My.rules My.sitemap

ngy, As far as I can tell, your My.xxx files are almost the same as the ones I used with an openhabianpi recently. The one difference I saw: from My.rules, you can delete the line: import org.openhab.core.library.types.*
However, I don't believe deleting that line from My.rules will solve your problems.
As your log said, Validation issues found in configuration model 'My.sitemap', using it anyway: Sitemap should contain either only frames or none at all
In My.sitemap, you can delete the comment lines above sitemap My label="My House" In the sitemap, OpenHAB prefers not to have anything that is not framed by { } Or put { on a blank line before the comments AND put } on a blank line after the comments. Comments framed { } like that do not seem to generate the log error.
That deletion or framing ^^ may avoid the log error entry, but I don't believe it will solve your problem.
Error during the execution of rule 'Node02_Sensed': An error occurred during the script execution: Could not invoke method: java.lang.Number.floatValue() on instance: NULL ^^ The rule in My.rules combines Node 2 Temp & humidity. If OpenHAB is getting only NULL (no data) from temp & humidity, the rule has nothing to work on. ======================== Use this terminal command to make sure the Mosquitto MQTT message broker is still running on the PI sudo service mosquitto status

On top of getting that error, I am also not getting any of the voltage, signal strength info. However, the node is clearly able to communicate with the gateway, because right now i have the gateway monitored on the serial monitor, and I can see the voltage/signal strength/temp/humidity.
somehow it is not passing information from the gateway to openhab. the MQTT light is on all the time.

If it helps, here is the log when I trigger the switch via BasicUI, but the LED on the node does not light up:

So it seems like openhab and the MQTT is not talking properly. gateway <-> node communicates well, but gateway <-> mqtt <-> openhab, somewhere along the way does not work.

Got the gateway plugged in and debug code running, here's the serial monitor:
GW Version GW V2.5.1_p1
915 Mhz...
connecting
no link
MQTT-link OK
MQTT msg: home/rfm_gw/nb/node02/dev02: -33
MQTT msg: home/rfm_gw/nb/node02/dev04: 3.29
MQTT msg: home/rfm_gw/nb/node02/dev09: 1
MQTT msg: home/rfm_gw/nb/node02/dev16: OFF
MQTT msg: home/rfm_gw/nb/node02/dev48: 24.00
MQTT msg: home/rfm_gw/nb/node02/dev49: 28.00
MQTT msg: home/rfm_gw/nb/node02/dev16: ON
MQTT msg: home/rfm_gw/nb/node02/dev40: ON
MQTT msg: home/rfm_gw/nb/node02/dev40: OFF
so the gateway receives all the MQTT messages fine, switch status change is received immediately, so definitely something from the gateway to mqtt to openhab is not working/passing 'null'.
will keep diagnosing.

Log: "Validation issues found in configuration model 'My.rules', using it anyway: The use of wildcard imports is deprecated."
papa: The imports near the top of My.rules are left from OpenHAB 1. You can delete those imports & probably eliminate the log error, but may not solve your main issue. =====================================
Log: "Validation issues found in configuration model 'My.sitemap', using it anyway: Sitemap should contain either only frames or none at all"
papa: As I believe I said earlier, you can delete the comments near the top of My.sitemap & probably eliminate the log error, but it may not solve your main issue. ====================================== Log: "Error during the execution of rule 'Node02_Sensed': An error occurred during the script execution: Could not invoke method: java.lang.Number.floatValue() on instance: NULL"
papa: As I believe I said earlier, rule 'Node02_Sensed' in My.rules combines Node02 Temp & Humidity into one OpenHAB entry. However, if openHAB is not getting Temp or Humidity data (NULL), the rule will choke on it. I believe this log entry is a symptom of your problem, not a cause. ========================================
ngy, as you show from the gateway serial monitor output, etc, "when I trigger the switch via BasicUI, the LED on the node does not light up ... nothing is logged when I trigger it via node switch, but the LED lights up. ... the gateway receives all the MQTT messages fine, switch status change is received immediately, so definitely something from the gateway to mqtt to openhab is not working/passing 'null'. ... it seems like openhab and the MQTT is not talking properly. gateway <-> node communicates well, but gateway <-> mqtt <-> openhab, somewhere along the way does not work."
papa: That's a good analysis of the symptoms: (Gateway & node are talking. Gateway is connected to local network & MQTT. Still node data is not getting through the gateway to the OpenHAB User Interface or logs, but the cause does not seem to generate a log error.) Again a good analysis of symptoms, but somehow we are still missing the cause of your main problem.
Try the deletions I gave above, & as you said, "keep diagnosing"
====================================================
I've been writing a Linux .bash script to check key areas of readiness for our DIY Home Automation project. I need to go to bed now, but I'll try to post that tomorrow for you to try. Maybe that script will indicate something.
One more thing in the log: "Started Language Server Protocol (LSP) service on port 5007." If that is the voice command aspect, you might try disabling that. I remember seeing something about that feature possibly causing some problems. ==================================
!! Hmmmmm, ngy: "Also noticed (and fixed) an incorrect use of '<' (should be '>') in My.items file, I typed it incorrectly." That is important.
Yes, correct version of the switch item is Switch Act_Node02 { mqtt="<[mosquitto:home/rfm_gw/nb/node02/dev16:state:default::]", mqtt=">[mosquitto:home/rfm_gw/sb/node02/dev16:command:*:default]" }
The use of '<' '>' 'sb' & 'nb' in MQTT bindings are important to what direction the MQTT messages communicate. '< & nb' says pass data from Node towards Gateway & openHAB. '> & sb' mean pass command from OpenHAB & UI to node.
The first MQTT binding asks for the state of power going to the LED. The second is meant to send any commands from openhab to the node.

ngy, especially after you corrected the Switch item, are you sure that clicking the UI switch is not affecting the node?
When I trigger the UI switch for my Node05, here is what I see on the Karaf console output of the log (via log:tail command): See how similar my log is to yours (matches color-coded) Item 'Act_Node05' received command ON Act_Node05 changed from OFF to ON
Item 'Act_Node05' received command OFF Act_Node05 changed from ON to OFF
When I toggle the button on the node, I see only Act_Node05 changed from OFF to ON Act_Node05 changed from ON to OFF

Found the problem. Searching online showed having MQTT Action installed with the MQTT binding has issues: github.com/openhab/openhab1-addons/issues/5038 I couldn't uninstall MQTT actions in the PaperUI, so I reflashed openhabian, and only installed the MQTT binding, and voila! everything works like a charm. Thanks papa for all your help, hope this info helps others too!

Good research & troubleshooting, ngy. Your experience could be very instructive to all of us:
1) This DIY Home Automation project (especially using RFM69 radios that require a Gateway besides nodes) is doable, BUT has several challenging aspects, especially for beginners.
2) Again working together, we had a good analysis of symptoms: "Gateway & node are talking. Gateway is connected to local network & MQTT. Still node data is not getting through the gateway to the OpenHAB User Interface or logs, but the cause does not seem to generate a log error."
ngy: "Searching online showed having MQTT Action installed with the MQTT binding has issues" Yes, as I raise above, I remember similar things about the voice command feature. Sometimes in excitement over a new project or in frustration trying to get things to work, we try too much. It's probably best to get the minimum aspects working & then add other things gradually & test before moving on.
Perhaps when we see such symptoms again, we can suspect interference between OH features (bindings, etc) & then we try reducing such features to the minimum needed.
3) When you reflashed openhabian & started a new OpenHAB install, you were using all your gained experience about correct installation. Perhaps you cleaned out other problems introduced when you were trying everything. Again, it may be best to go back to minimums & gradually add more & watch how well the additions work before moving on to more additions.
Perhaps when we see such symptoms again, we might save dated copies of our configurations, then try a new openhab install with minimum features & gradually add & test other configurations we desire.

ngy: I couldn't uninstall MQTT actions in the PaperUI.
papa: From my experience, if we install a binding etc. via text files (like addons.cfg in the case of bindings), we can see them listed as installed in PaperUI, but we cannot uninstall them in PaperUI. I believe that if we install something in BOTH PaperUI & a text file that the text file entry takes precedent.
ngy: I reflashed openhabian, and only installed the MQTT binding, and voila! everything works like a charm.
papa: I'm thrilled that we got your beginning project working. I recommend that you save an image of this & future working openhabians so if you must reflash this install you need not start from scratch.
ngy: Thanks papa for all your help

When you find forum info that is incorrect, please help us correct it. When you add new feature or improvement to our DIY Home Automation project, please share it here.
I also hope you watch for when I post my script to check key areas of readiness for our DIY Home Automation project. Please try the script, report your results, & give feedback.no problem. one thing I also noticed is that the massduino does not work as a gateway, nor an end node well. While the Arduino software uploaded the sketch to the massduino no problem, it does not perform as expected, so I can't recommend it. Thanks,

Thank you, ngy, for reporting more on the massduino & your willingness to contribute to the forum. I'll add your massduino report to the part's sources thread.
