Just an FYI for everyone.... I discovered that the gas/smoke sensor can interfere with the RF reception. gas sensor mounted on top RF chip was directly underneath gas sensor When I closed the lid, the node would lose radio connection. As soon as I opened the lid, the radio would connect. It was an easy fix, I just removed my coiled antenna and replaced it with a straight wire out the side of the device. Now it works perfect. Lesson learned: It does matter where you mount your RF chip! If you are having radio connection issues, try moving your RF chip and/or your antenna.
